Every spring I try to make it to the Flower & Garden Festival at EPCOT at least once. The flowers are in full bloom, the weather is still comfortable before the Florida summer heat arrives, and walking through the different gardens always feels like a little celebration of the season.
As I wandered through the displays this year, I kept noticing how effortlessly nature mixes color. Bright flowers were paired with soft greens, bold colors sat next to gentle pastels, and somehow everything still felt balanced and beautiful.
It made me think about weddings.
Choosing a color palette is one of the first creative decisions many couples make when planning their wedding. But with so many options online, it can sometimes feel overwhelming to decide what combinations will work well together.
One of the simplest places to find inspiration is actually outside.
Nature tends to combine colors in ways that feel organic and harmonious. A garden might pair soft blush flowers with deep greenery, or mix warm tones with cooler shades in the background. These combinations work because they aren’t forced. They feel natural.
That same idea can translate beautifully into wedding design.
For spring weddings especially, softer color palettes often feel especially natural. Gentle pastels, light neutrals, and fresh greens tend to blend beautifully with outdoor settings. These tones create a look that feels romantic and airy while still allowing florals, details, and textures to stand out.
As a photographer, I especially love how these lighter color palettes photograph throughout the day. Soft tones reflect light beautifully and create images that feel bright, timeless, and full of natural warmth.
Spring is also one of my favorite times of year for engagement sessions along Florida’s Gulf Coast. The light is soft, flowers are blooming, and places around Clearwater and the Tampa Bay area start to feel especially beautiful this time of year.
Sometimes inspiration really does come from the most unexpected places.
A walk through a garden.
A mix of flowers growing side by side.
Or a spring afternoon wandering through EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival.
If you're currently planning your wedding and thinking about colors, it can be helpful to step away from Pinterest for a moment and simply notice the palettes that exist in nature around you.
You might be surprised how much inspiration is already there.
If you're planning a wedding or engagement session along Florida’s Gulf Coast or in the Tampa Bay area, I’d love to hear what you’re envisioning.
