Michayla and Colton came to Florida from British Columbia with a simple plan: get married, make memories, and have a few beautiful portraits to remember it all. While their actual ceremony took place at a courthouse with a few close friends in attendance, they knew they wanted professional photos in their wedding attire to capture the joy of the day.

They were staying at the Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort, which meant they weren’t exactly familiar with the area—so they leaned on me for help choosing a location. I suggested Celebration Town Center, and it ended up being the perfect choice.

This little slice of Kissimmee, Florida is full of character: cobblestone streets, waterfront views, charming architecture, and plenty of lush greenery. It looks like it was made for portraits—and as a bonus, it's only about 20 minutes from where they were staying.

The forecast had me watching the sky all day (and yes, I carried an umbrella around just in case!), but Florida surprised us in the best way. We had blue skies, fluffy clouds, and ideal weather from start to finish.

One of my favorite things about this session was how much trust Michayla and Colton gave me. Even though they admitted: “Neither of us love getting our photo taken, but knew this was something we would want in the end.”—they still showed up with so much joy and openness. I walked them through every pose and made sure they felt comfortable every step of the way. The result? A gallery full of portraits that reflect who they are: joyful, in love, and just beginning their next chapter.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Don’t worry about knowing the area. If you're traveling for your elopement, choose a photographer who knows the local gems and can help you find the perfect location (like Celebration Town Center).
Photos still matter—even if you skip the big wedding. Elopement portraits are a beautiful way to mark the moment and celebrate your story.
Feeling awkward is normal. Most couples don’t love being in front of the camera, but a good photographer will guide you and help you feel relaxed and confident.
