Amanda & Dave’s Fort De Soto Engagement Session

Amanda and Dave chose Fort De Soto for their engagement session, and one thing they really wanted to include was a view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. We started near the water where we could see the Skyway in the distance. It’s such a recognizable part of Tampa Bay, but from Fort De Soto it can sit quietly in the background without taking the focus away from the couple.

Fort De Soto is a huge park made up of five interconnected islands at the southern end of Tierra Verde. With more than 1,100 acres along the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, it has a little bit of everything that feels like Florida. We were able to move through several areas of the park throughout Amanda and Dave’s session, starting with softer blues and greens along the water before eventually making our way toward the pier and beach.

Engagement Photos on the Fort De Soto Pier

The pier is one of my favorite places to photograph at Fort De Soto. There are so many opportunities for great composition with the lines of the pier and all of the open water surrounding it. It also sits high enough above the water that you can really see the sky behind the couple, which is especially beautiful when the clouds start picking up color around sunset.

Amanda’s red dress looked so good against all of those softer coastal colors, and as the evening went on, the light and sky continued to change. We mixed the more traditional portraits with lots of walking, laughing, and movement, which gave Amanda and Dave so much variety while still letting the session feel relaxed.

Sunset Engagement Photos at Fort De Soto

We finished the evening down by the shoreline, where the sky went from soft blue to shades of peach and pink. I always love when Florida gives us some clouds at sunset because they can add so much color and texture to the sky, and this evening definitely delivered.

Fort De Soto was such a great fit for Amanda and Dave’s engagement photos. They got the Skyway view they wanted, plenty of that beautiful Florida scenery, and such a pretty sunset to end the evening. Now I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding at The West Events this November!

Planning your own Tampa Bay wedding? I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up.
